ORPHEUS and THE LAST BUCKET OF WATER…

October 5th, 2008

That subject line looks like an adventure story but no, it’s two of the shows MILKE is producing for the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

ORPHEUS written and performed by Simon Oats is about 1 Man, 1 Electric Guitar and it’s one hell of a tale.  It’s rock and roll storytelling.  Pub rock meets Greek Myth.  Here’s what the critics have said:

ORPHEUS

“Oats is charismatic and engaging from the moment he steps on stage and fires up the guitar…By the time the story is over, the audience is riveted. Orpheus is excellent.”
-Tim Richards, The Age

“Oats’ rock ballad style songs are very cleverly written, very moving, poetic and varied…Oats really knows how to engage with song and story in an open and direct style that is immediate and moving.” -Michael Magnusson, Onstage Melbourne.

The other show is by the comedy group THE HOUNDS (who are Adam McKenzie, Robby Lloyd and Tegan Higginbotham) and it’s called THE LAST BUCKET OF WATER.  This is a high energy, high paced slapstick look at what might happen if we run out of water.

THE LAST BUCKET OF WATER

Critics have said “It’s refreshing to see a comedy show so well-rehearsed and performed. There’s thought and effort behind The Last Bucket Of Water, from the script to the set to the lighting design. The result is delicious silliness, and I hope McKenzie, Lloyd and Higginbotham plan to continue their collaboration for many shows to come” www.aussietheatre.com

Both shows are an excellent example of the talent we have here in Melbourne and the wonderful range of shows happening at the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

So if you’re looking for two great shows to go and see.  Here’s your ticket.   There is only one more week left and they are filling up fast, so booking is advisable.
