Laura Milke Garner named Melbourne Fringe Living Legend
What an award!
On Sunday 18 October 2026, MILKE’s Executive Producer, Laura Milke Garner, was awarded the Living Legend Award by Melbourne Fringe, recognising her contribution to the independent arts sector.
With over 29 years of experience developing, producing and touring comedy, theatre and cabaret across Australia and internationally, Laura is one of Australia’s leading independent producers and has spent much of her career championing independent artists, creating opportunities and supporting the next generation of producers through workshops and mentoring.
For the past 12 years, Laura has also presented the MILKE Emerging Producer Award at both Melbourne Fringe and Adelaide Fringe, recognising and supporting emerging producing talent.
The Melbourne Fringe Living Legend Award is presented annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Fringe community. It recognises those who champion artists, push creative boundaries, demonstrate leadership and help raise the bar for independent performance.
On receiving the award, Laura said:
“It’s not often a producer gets recognised for the work they do, especially in the independent sector. A lot of what we do happens behind the scenes, and that’s just part of the job. But geez, it’s super nice to be seen. I’m really chuffed to be called a Living Legend. A slightly ridiculous title, but one I’m very happy to accept (and secretly love, ha). Thanks Melbourne Fringe. It really does mean a lot.”
A pretty lovely moment, and a nice reminder that the work producers do behind the scenes doesn’t always go unnoticed.
